Popular Home Additions in Phoenixville

There’s no single right way to add onto a house. The best addition depends on what your home is missing, how your family uses the space, your property, and how the existing house is laid out.

Here are some of the most common additions we help homeowners plan.

Love your home but hate how cramped the kitchen feels? Sometimes rearranging cabinets can only get you so far.

A kitchen addition or bump-out can create enough square footage for a larger island, walk-in pantry, dining area, additional cabinetry, or a more open layout. Even a relatively modest expansion can completely change how your kitchen connects with the rest of your home.

Adding a primary bedroom suite gives you the opportunity to create a space designed around the way you actually live.

Depending on your home and available space, your addition can include a larger bedroom, private bathroom, walk-in closet, additional storage, and other features that are difficult to squeeze into an existing floor plan.

It’s also a great option for homeowners who love their Phoenixville home but have simply outgrown its original bedroom layout.

Sometimes you just need a place where everyone can spread out.

A new family room can give you a comfortable everyday gathering space without forcing your existing living room to do everything. Large windows, vaulted ceilings, built-in storage, fireplaces, and easy access to your backyard or patio can all be incorporated into the design.

Working from the kitchen table gets old quickly.

A dedicated home office addition gives you a permanent workspace without sacrificing a bedroom or taking over another part of the house. We can design the room around natural light, storage, built-ins, technology, and privacy so it actually works as an office.

More families are looking for ways to comfortably accommodate parents, adult children, or extended family under one roof.

An in-law suite can provide additional living and sleeping space while still giving everyone some privacy. Depending on the project, that may include a bedroom, bathroom, sitting area, storage, and other features designed for comfortable long-term living.

You don’t always need hundreds of extra square feet to make a major difference.

A mudroom addition can finally give shoes, coats, backpacks, pet supplies, and everything else that comes through the door a place to go. For busy households, it’s one of those smaller additions that can make the entire home feel more organized.

The Approach

What to Expect When You Build an Addition With Us

A home addition is a significant project. Knowing what’s happening before construction begins makes the process much easier. Our approach keeps you involved from the initial ideas through the finished space.

Step 1: In-Home Consultation

Rich will meet with you to see the existing space, learn what you want to accomplish, and talk through potential options for expanding your home.

Step 2: Design and Planning

This is where we work through the size, layout, placement, and overall design of the addition. We also consider how the project affects the existing rooms around it because a great addition should improve the rest of the house too.

Step 3: Proposal and Material Selections

We’ll walk you through the project scope and help you select the materials and finishes needed for the addition. Our goal is to give you a straightforward proposal so you understand where your budget is going.

Step 4: Permits, Construction & Final Walkthrough

We coordinate the construction process and required permitting so you aren’t left trying to figure everything out yourself. Once completed we’ll review the space, address anything that still needs attention, clean up the work area, and make sure you’re happy with the finished project.

Locally Owned & Trusted

An Addition Designed for Your Phoenixville Home

Phoenixville has everything from older borough homes to stone houses, established suburban properties, and newer developments. That variety is part of what makes the area great, but it also means there’s no cookie-cutter approach to building an addition.

Older homes have character that’s hard to reproduce, but they can also come with smaller rooms and floor plans designed for a very different way of living.

An addition can give you modern space without stripping away everything you love about the original home. The key is carefully tying the new construction into the existing structure and respecting the home’s original proportions and character.

An addition shouldn’t compete with a beautiful older home.

Rooflines, exterior materials, windows, trim, and proportions all matter when expanding a traditional or stone property. We approach these projects with the goal of making the addition look intentional rather than obviously new.

Colonial-style homes often provide excellent opportunities for additions because their straightforward layouts can make it easier to expand a kitchen, family room, primary suite, or rear portion of the home.

The addition can also be an opportunity to improve how the entire first floor flows rather than simply adding another room.

Even newer houses don’t always have enough space where you actually need it.

Maybe you need a dedicated office, larger kitchen, another bedroom, or more room for entertaining. An addition lets you adapt the home to your life instead of moving simply because the original floor plan no longer works.

I was thrilled with the work that Rich and his team from Shaded Green did at my home. We had some water damage in the ceiling of our kitchen and also need some remodeling in our master bath. Both jobs were complete on time, on budget and with fantastic professionalism start to finish. Lots of people won't mention this, but Rich's team are not JUST skilled craftsman and excellent at what they do - they are efficient, very pleasant to speak/deal with and keep an amazingly clean jobsite. They exude a very "customer first" attitude which is refreshing - look forward to hiring them for my next job!

I had a flood in my basement and shaded green restored my basement. They were always on time. I was not worried about leaving them alone in my home, they were clean and always tied up before leaving. I was very happy with the job done and would use them again.

Rich and his team are my husband and I’s go to for assistance with home maintenance and repairs. He has never steered us wrong with recommendations and usually comes in under budget from all competitors. He is super personable and provides quality work that he stands by. When he built our fence, he did talk us out of a vinyl fence (due to the extra maintenance/repairs) but he customized it and it’s absolutely perfect! He even accommodated our request by adding special closures for the gates like we requested.

Shaded Green is a company that really takes pride in the work they do. From what I’ve seen and heard, they focus on quality craftsmanship, especially when it comes to decks and basement projects, but they do it all!. Their work looks clean, well done, and built to last. They are a team that values honesty and treats people the right way. It’s refreshing to see a business that appears straightforward, doesn’t cut corners, and makes customers feel comfortable rather than pressured. If you’re looking for a contractor who seems reliable, does solid work, and values integrity, Shaded Green is definitely worth considering.

I highly recommend Rich and his team at Shaded Green. They took on a challenging project of turning a wet bar closet into a custom shower equipped for someone with a physical disability. He not only engineered it well, but paid close attention to the aesthetics and design and was very accommodating with every request. The team was always very prompt, kind and patient! Rich is incredibly easy to work with and communicates well. Would recommend them to anyone!

FAQs

Home Addition FAQs

Building an addition naturally comes with a lot of questions. Here are some of the things Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware County homeowners commonly want to know before getting started.

How Much Does a Home Addition Cost in Phoenixville, PA?

The cost of a home addition depends heavily on the size and type of space you’re adding, the existing home, site conditions, materials, and how much plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or structural work is involved.

As a general starting point, the kitchen remodeling template notes that additions can run $400 or more per square foot, but an accurate price requires looking at the specific project.

During your consultation, we’ll talk through what you want to build and help you understand the budget required to do it properly.

Home additions generally take longer than interior-only remodeling because you’re creating new conditioned living space and tying it into an existing structure.

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the addition, permitting, site work, material availability, inspections, and the amount of structural work required. We’ll give you a project-specific timeline before construction begins so you know what to expect.

Yes. Home additions generally require permits because they involve structural construction and often include electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work.

Exactly which approvals are required depends on your property and the scope of the addition. Permitting is something we’ll account for as part of the planning process rather than leaving you to figure it out once construction is ready to start.

It depends on how much you like your current home and location.

If the biggest problem with your house is simply that you’re running out of room, an addition can solve that problem without forcing you to give up your neighborhood, yard, school district, commute, or everything else you already like about where you live.

If there are several things about the property that no longer work for you, moving may make more sense. That’s something worth deciding before investing in a major renovation.

Yes. Shaded Green is registered with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office under PA140902 and is insured. The original page emphasizes this as an important qualification homeowners should check when comparing remodeling contractors.
